HelpIt's what's for dinner

Why hello. You seem to be having an incredible day.

Creating My Account

Creating an account is the same thing as registering. To do that, go to the Sign Up page and fill in the required fields. We've tried to keep the hassle to a minimum so there's only 4 fields to fill out. Once you're registered, you'll be automatically logged in and have access to your account page.

The account page serves as your dashboard or home base on Who'sTough - a place where you can easily keep track of and access all of the stuff that you're involved with. (The link for your account is up in toward the top of the page - but it's only visible if you're logged in).

Changing My Picture

When you first sign up for the site, you'll be assigned a default picture to represent you as a user. Don't stress, it's an awesome image. Of course, you probably have one that you like better than ours. If you want to change your image, you can do so from your account page. On the right sidebar, there's a link labeled Edit Profile. Once you're in there, you can select to upload a new image - just select an image from your computer and upload it to our system. (Square images tend to work best). You'll need to keep the image under 1MB. We'll do the rest - you know, put it in all the right places and whatnot. That's what we're here for.

Notifications

We have a system of notifications for different events that happen on the site. You might want to know whether the awesome fighter you've created has been challenged to any fights - or if anyone has added you as their buddy. By default, you'll be notified via email if these events happen - but we know that email can get overwhelming sometimes so you can turn off email notifications. To do so, go to your account page and look at the My Profile section on the right. There's a section labeled: My Settings. You can turn off email notifications by toggling the links.

Creating A Group

As you'd imagine, a group is just a collection of people - people. Maybe you want to create a group with all of your friends in it, or create a group that focuses on obscure super heros. Whatever you want - it's cool with us. In order to create a group, you'll have to be logged in. And you can't be logged in without first signing up. To create a group, go to the groups page. On the right sidebar of the page, click the Create a Group button, and you'll go to the Create Group page. On that page, you're asked to fill in information about the group you're creating.

Group Type

What sort of group is this? Is is a collection of your buddies? Your co-workers? Is it a group intended to have celebrity or superhero fighters? It's up to you - but that's where we're going with this one. If you don't select anything, your group will default to "General" which is our catch-all for groups. We don't expect to have every single possible type of group you might think of, but hopefully you don't mind.

Group Mascot

Choose some sort of image that you want to represent your group. We prefer you use something that's not completely pornographic. It may or may not matter, but the group mascot is displayed as a square, so something that's sort of square tends to work best.

Group Name

Gotta have it. This is the only required one of all the stuff on the create group page. Straightforward enough - it's what your group is called. Keep in mind that people are allowed to search on this, so it's not a bad idea to give it a name that makes sense inherently. There's nothing stopping you from throwing down some nonsense, it will just make it harder for people to find your group or to understand what it's all about. If that's what you're aiming for - hey that's cool with us.

Creating A Fighter

Who'sTough is all about fights. And without fighters there'd be no fights. So it's up to you to create fighters to place in fights. In order to create a fighter, you have to be a registered user, and logged in. Once you're logged in, go to the Fighters page and select the Create A New Fighter button on the right. If you're logged, there's also a Create a Fighter link in the tiny navigation at the top of the page.Once, you're on this page, you can create your fighter by filling in the fields and uploading an image. A couple things to keep in mind:

Your fighter can either be real or fantasy - but you can only have one "real" fighter. That should be you. We automatically create your real fighter for you when you sign up with us. Your fighter's different than you as a user, because we know some people just want to be spectators on the site - and that's totally cool with us. For your one, real fighter, you're allowed to edit the fighter's nickname.

For fantasy fighters, you can't change the fighter's nickname once you've created it. You can edit everything else about the fighter, just not the nickname. We don't want people changing George McFly to Superman at the drop of a hat. That'd make all the history and fights that the fighter has been in up to this point seem kind of weird, huh?

In creating your fighter, nothing's mandatory except the nickname - and like we said, you can't change your fighter's nickname once it's set. You can change everything else about your fighter though. Get as creative as you want - the more you describe your fighter, the more people will understand what he or she is all about. People can rate your fighter's toughness, and who knows, maybe we'll even let people rate your fighter's overall dopeness in the not-too-distant future.

Sending A Fight-Vite

A Fight-Vite is probably the best way to get your friends to sign-up to this incredible place. So say you've just signed up and you want to fight your closest friend, but he's not on Who'sTough™ yet. Well, just go to your account page and find the Fight-Vite link. This will bring you a form where you can enter your friend's e-mail address, choose a fighter from your fighters and set a fight duration. This will basically create a pending fight and an email invitation will be sent to your friend. Once they sign up the fight will immediately go into the active fights rotation and the members of the community can begin voting on the outcome. It's a polite and non-confrontational way to extend an invitation to an ass-kicking.

Editing My Profile

If you'd like to edit the details of your profile, you can do so through your account page. In order to access your Account page, you need to be logged in. In the sidebar of this page, there are some links that let you adjust different pieces of information contained in your profile and account.

Editing A Group

If you created a group, that makes you the promoter of that group, and you'll have the ability to edit the details of the group. As the promoter of the group, you can edit your group's details from two different places: from the Group Details page of that group (on the left sidebar, click the Edit Group link) or from your account page (in the My Groups tab, select the Edit Group link associated with a group)

You'll be able to change all the features of the group - including the name, as long as no other group has the name you want to use. You have the ability to change the privacy level of the group - but keep in mind, making a group private won't excluded users who are already members of that group, it will only keep new users from joining the group.

Editing A Fighter

Once you've created a fighter, you can still go back and edit all of the details for the fighter - except for the nickname. You can edit the details of one of fighters from two different places: from your account page (under the My Fighters tab - select the Edit Fighter Details link) or from the Fighter Details page for that fighter (click the Edit Your Fighter link just underneath the fighter's picture)

If you'd like to upload a new image for your fighter - just choose one from your computer and submit it along with any other details you've changed about your fighter.

Group Promoter

Being the Group Promoter of a group means you're in charge. You created the group and, as such have the ability to change all of the details about a particular group. Any group for which you are the promoter will be reflected on your account page, under the My Groups tab, and you'll have a link to edit the details of that group from your account page.

Group Privacy

Who'sTough has a few different privacy levels for any group that exists. Here's what these privacy levels are all about: Public: Anyone can see the group and the stuff going on within it. You don't have to be registered or logged in to see the details of a public group, but to do anything else you'll need to be logged in. When somebody's logged in, they can: Vote on fights within a public group, post comments to the group details of a public group, join a public group, add their fighters to a public group. Private: A private group still allows anyone to see a group and the stuff going on within it. However, the important difference here is that a registered user has to be invited to join the group. Semi-Private: In a semi-private group, you need to be an existing member of that group to invite new members. Hidden: Only the group promoter can invite people to a hidden group, and only people who accept the invitation can see the group. These types of groups aren't surfaced by our search engine and access is blocked to non-members. If you're a member of such a group, you can always access it through your account page.

Group Types

We've created a bunch of different group types for people to create. The idea is really just a way to group different kinds of folks who want to associate with each other. Now, there's no hard and fast restrictions on what a group type means for the members and fighters who can be in the group. It's really intended as a way to help people find groups with the kind of people and fighters they're looking for. If there's a particular type of group that you're dying to see us put in, just let us know. We just might do it. Until then, we just hoped to capture some of the general kinds of groups that people might want to use, and here's what we came up with:

  • General Groups
  • Buddy Groups
  • Celebrity Groups
  • Sports Groups
  • Historical Groups
  • Hero Groups

Group Invites

If you are the promoter of a group, you'll probably want to invite some of your friends. If so, as group promoter, you can invite whomever you'd like. Or, if you're a member and the group's privacy level is set to Public or Semi-Private, you'll have the option to invite people as well. In order to make it happen, select the link from the left sidebar on the detail page for that group. Enter email addresses, separated by commas. Hit submit, and we'll do the rest - we'll give you feedback on which of your invites went through successfully, if you happened to invite people who were already invited to the group, or if you gave us some crazy weird emails we couldn't deal with. People who get invited will find the invite by logging into their invite page and either accepting or declining the invitation. That's it!

Reset Password

When you create a password on the site, we encrypt it before we store it. That means no one but you has access to ever see what your password is. As such, if you lose your password, we have to reset it rather than just sending it to you. Some sites might just store it, but we want to make sure your info is safe. In order to reset your password, just go to the Reset Password page and enter your email. A new password will be emailed to you. Use the password provided in the email to login, and then, if you like, change your password on your account page to whatever you'd like. You'll probably want to change it, because our password generator makes up some crazy, hard-to-rember junk. Like we told it to.

Delete Fighter

Right now you can't really delete a fighter. If you were able to, it would totally make things crazy with any historical fights or info or general "stuff" that fighter was involved with. So - if you don't want a fighter you've created to get into any new fights or join any new groups, you can instead retire that fighter from the action. To do this, go to your account page and select the My Fighters tab. From there, find the fighter that you want to retire, and click the Retire Fighter link. Your fighter will be immediately removed from the fray and no one will be able to put them into new fights.

Delete Group

Even if you've created a group, you don't have the option to delete it. The reason behind that is that other people may be enjoying themselves in the group you've created, and we want the respect what people are doing in that group. If you want to stop participating in a group as a member, you can retire from the group. If you're a promoter and don't want anyone beyond existing group members to use the group, just change the privacy level of that group to Hidden and it will disappear from everyone except members. That should do it.

Delete My Account

There's really no deleting accounts. If you'd like to stop using your account, just let it hang out like a teenager in front of a liquor store. You might want to turn off email notifications through your account page, and we'll stop sending you anything. We sure hope you come back and play around some more later though, or else it looks like we might have to rumble.

Voting

WhosTough is all about voting. Of course, you can vote on who you think would win in a particular fight between two fighters. In addition to that, you can vote on the overall toughness of a fighter as well. To vote on a fight, just go to the fight detail page for a particular fight and choose the fighter you think would win. Select 1-10, on a scale of how bad of an ass whipping you think the winner would deliver, and click that number. A new fight that you haven't voted on will be queued up, and you'll see the real time fight results for the fight that you just voted on displayed below this new fight. When you vote on a fighter's overall toughness, just pick how tough that fighter is from 1-10, and click that number. The results will be tallied on the page, with that fighter's overall score tallied in his or her fighter card, and your vote will be shown in the area you just used to vote. For both fights and fighters, you can always reset your vote value if you want. Just look on the detail page for a particular fight or fighter and select the Reset Vote link, and we'll delete your old vote so you can enter a new vote value.

Sharing / Send to a Friend

(Users, Fighters, Fights, Groups)

If you see something you like, you always have the option of sharing that page with a friend via email. To share a particular item, find the Share link for that page - they're generally located along the left side of the page. If you're logged in, we'll automatically know what your email address is, so you don't have to enter that. If you're not logged in, you can still share, you just need to enter your own email address in order to share that particular item. Just fill in the required fields with valid email addresses as necessary and hit send. We'll send them an email with details of and links to the item you've shared. The receiver will get an email message letting them know that you wanted to share something with them.

Tracking A Fight

If there's a fight that you've become particularly interested in, it's a good idea to track it. In order to track a fight, select the Track It link on a fight's page. This will add the fight to your account page under the My Fights tab, and in the Fights I'm Tracking section. You always have the option of no longer tracking a fight, and you can stop tracking a fight from either your account page or from the detail page of that fight itself. (Hey - as a note, if there's a particular user that you'd like to keep track of, just add them as a buddy and you'll have easy access to them through your account page, as well as your public profile page).

Where's my picture?

Our system requires that your user, fighter or group picture must be a minimum of 155px by 155px dimensions. What does this mean? Well, chances are if the image you tried uploading is not showing up on your detail page then it was too small. So if this is something you encounter, please either resize your picture in an application like Photoshop or simply choose another image that meets our size requirements. Like those rollercoaster rides that say "you gotta be this tall". Or something like that. Oh one more thing. Make sure your image is not super-huge in terms of file size. No high-res suckers.

Flagging innappropriate content

Flagging is a way that we can use your help to find stuff that violates our rules, is totally sketchy, dirty, or is just generally going beyond reasonable levels of taste. But don't worry - we're not into censorship or controlling what you do, we just don't want people to feel threatened by anyone else's behavior on the site. So here's the skinny: if you come across a page or a particular piece of content on the site and want to bring it to our attention, hit the Flag as inappropriate link in the site footer. We'll store the URL that you were on, and you have the option of providing us with a description of what you believe is inappropriate on the page. We'll have a look, and take care of stuff that shouldn't be there. The more descriptive and specific you can be, the easier it will be for us to identify something specific on a page. We really appreciate your help and effort in keeping this whole community of ass kickery in good, clean, totally badass fun.

Privacy & Terms

The basic idea of privacy is: we don't share your information with any third parties and we won't. We've also got some terms that guide what you're agreeing to by virtue of being a member. It's all pretty normal stuff, but here are links for you to review them: Privacy Policy / User Agreement.

Code of Conduct

Our code of conduct is basically this: Have fun, but try your best to keep things in the spirit of fun. Don't threaten other users physically. Don't post porn. That kind of stuff that should be common sense, but still we're going ahead and saying it. If we need to spell out more stuff in our code of conduct in the future we'll do it. But for now, just be tough in a smart and funny way and you'll be just fine.

General Questions

If you have some general questions about stuff that's not covered elsewhere on the site, feel free to shoot us an email. It's best for you to use our Info + Contact page, but you can also shoot us an email by writing to: info@whostough.com. We'll get back to you as soon as we can, and hopefully we can fully answer any questions you might have. We love to hear from you in general, so if you have any suggestions for improvements we could make to the site, things you'd like to see in the future, we're really excited to hear from you about that. Have fun and bring it on!
